What’s Happening

APEX United & Fun Run is Here! We are super excited to kick off the APEX fun run school fundraiser this week.  This program is not only a fundraiser, but an interactive program that teaches leadership, good character and fitness.  The theme this year is UNITED! and students will participate in daily lessons throughout the next few weeks focusing the team “one family” characteristics :  Unique, No Excuses, Inspire Others, Teachable, Empathize and Do Your Best. 

The program kicks off on Wednesday morning at 7:35 (get here early!) with an all school “pep rally” in the cafeteria.  *Students should drop off backpacks at their rooms and then report directly to the cafeteria.  It closes on March 1 with a fun run during all specials classes.  Please see the attached flyer and our school website for information.  Link:  APEX Newsletter Note:  This is a direct school fundraiser…all money raised will support technology, flexible seating and the innovation station on our campus.  10% of each classroom’s donations will go directly back to support your child’s class. Please join us for Kinder Round Up at Sommer Elementary! This is a great chance for students to come see the school and be introduced to the kindergarten teachers. During your child’s session, they will participate in stations in order to get a little taste of what kindergarten will be like. Parents will remain in the library to complete registration paperwork and tour the campus. We know this will be an exciting time for these upcoming learners! We look forward to meeting you all. Registration for your kinder student to attend our Kinder RoundUp will be available February 21st- March 1st starting at 8am. Slots are available on a first come first serve basis. If your child WILL NOT be attending Kinder Round Up with you, you DO NOT need to sign up for a time slot. You can register your student at anytime between 9am- 2pm on March 7th. To expedite registration parents may pre-register online starting March 1. Once pre-registered, drop in at Kindergarten Round-Up with the required documents, listed below, to complete your student’s registration process. After March 7, campuses will continue to enroll students during business hours. Parents need to bring the following documents when registering at their campus:


  • Proof of residence within the district (contract on the house, lease agreement, actual title to a house, current RRISD tax statement, or current utility bill indicating the address and the adult’s name.)
  • Child’s official birth certificate,
  • Child’s immunization record (see requirements),
  • Child’s social security card (preferred but will not prevent enrollment)
The MultiCultural Committee invites you and your children to join us in exploring the world around us! Parents, please join us on the MultiCultural Committee! We will be working on monthly bulletin boards, a global postcard project, host the “Passport to Sommer” event that’s full of MultiCultural performances, Cultural Booths, arts and crafts and have monthly lunches to try new ethnic foods! volunteer 2If you plan to be a Watch D.O.G., go on a field trip, volunteer in the classroom, or work with students, you must complete the online application AND receive approval. Online Volunteer Application. Some helpful tips to remember when submitting your volunteer application:


  1. Please complete entire form.
  2. Select the school(s) where you would like to volunteer (you can choose more than one school).
  3. Please make sure that you click the SUBMIT button.
